75 years since the 1951 Refugee Convention: what was promised and where are we now?
Join us this refugee week for a talk by experts on the current reality for refugees and asylum seekers in Europe.
The theme of this year's refugee week is courage. Today, people seeking safety are forced into acts of extraordinary courage to perform everyday tasks. These should be ordinary acts, requiring nothing exceptional. This is the gap. This is where we stand. In the space between what was promised and what exists.
Stand in the Gap is a coalition of 14 humanitarian organisations working across Europe to bridge this gap with solidarity, from material aid and safe shelters to legal support and healthcare.
During the panel, our experts will cover:
- What was promised to refugees and asylum seekers in international conventions?
- What does the reality for refugees in Europe currently look like?
- What is the path forward to bridge the gap between what's been promised and the reality today?
Our panellists will highlight a variety of services that still have enormous gaps, including:
🚑 Healthcare
🦺 Safety
🤾♀️ Right to a fulfilling life
🎓 Legal gaps and the right to safety
